Sevilla look to Mainz defender Aaron Martin

Sevilla are attempting to sign Mainz full-back Aaron Martin but may be deterred by his €40m release clause, according to reports.

The 22-year-old made 34 first-team appearances for the German club last season having joined from Espanyol last summer in a €6m deal.

Radio Marca Sevilla report Sevilla sporting director Monchi is keen to process the deal but the Bundesliga club are said to be referencing his €40m clause.

It is said that Martin is an alternative for Los Rojiblancos compared to Real Madrid full-back Sergio Reguilon, who boss Julen Lopetegui is said to be an admirer of.

Martin provided five assists last season in Germany and has been a long-standing member of the Spain Under-21 team.

He has previously been linked to a number of leading European clubs including Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Sevilla are set to sell full-back Guilherme Arana this summer and are hopeful of providing competition to regular left full-back Sergio Escudero.

In Germany it is said a fee could be agreed between €20m and €25m.
