Roma move for Real Betis goalkeeper Pau Lopez

Roma have made an offer of €18m plus a further €2m in variables for Real Betis goalkeeper Pau Lopez, according to reports.

Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio, as cited by Marca, claims that the Italian club have moved for the Spain international goalkeeper.

The 24-year-old made 35 first-team appearances for Los Verdiblancos last season having joined on a free transfer from Espanyol last summer.

The report also claims that in addition to the fees paid directly to Betis, Roma will transfer the 50% ownership of Paraguayan striker Antonio Sanabria – currently on loan at Genoa from Betis, who own the remaining 50%.

Lopez has emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in Spain’s top-flight and indeed is third choice at international level behind England-based Kepa Arrizabalaga and David De Gea.

However, Betis are not in any position of needing to sell the goalkeeper and see him as an important part of their sporting project, as per the report.

Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Canales and Junior Firpo are other Betis stars whose future is unclear.
