Arthur Melo: I have more freedom with Brazil than Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo has explained that he is given ‘more freedom’ when playing for Brazil than at club level.

The Brazilian joined the Catalan giants from Gremio last summer and become an integral first-team player this campaign – making 44 first-team appearances.

“The main thing is that I play a greater role in the build-up play with Brazil,” Arthur explained, in quotes cited by Marca.

“In the national team I have more freedom to drop deeper and help build up the play, and I think that is the biggest difference in the styles.

“Tite (the Brazil Coach) gives me more freedom to do this and look for the ball in deeper areas – that is freedom I do not get at Barcelona.

“At Barcelona, I am tasked with building up more in the attack and have less freedom.”

Arthur has a contract at the Camp Nou until 2024 and has been the main player to replace former Barca captain Andres Iniesta – who departed the club last summer – in the first-team at the Blaugrana.
