Everton to battle Arsenal for Getafe defender Djene Dakonam

Premier League rivals Arsenal and Everton are set to battle it out for Getafe defender Djene Dakonam this summer.

According to reports in Marca this weekend, Marco Silva's side are set to enter the race to sign the Togolese international, who has been a long term target for the Gunners.

Unai Emery has remained tight lipped on a move for the 27-year old, but his side have remained consistently linked with the Alcorcon man, as they look to shore up their leaky defence in the 2019-20 campaign.

Everton are also hoping to boost their defensive options, with club captain Phil Jagielka retiring and Kurt Zouma returning to Chelsea, following his season-long loan at Goodison Park.

Djene has been ever present for Jose Bordalas' side since joining the club in 2017, making 70 La Liga appearances in two seasons, and he will not be allowed to leave for any less than his €35m release clause.
