Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has played down his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or, insisting that Lionel Messi should win it.
Dutch international van Dijk was named as man of the match as Jurgen Klopp's side won the Champions League in Madrid, but he believes Messi is the world's best.
"I think Messi is the best player in the world.
"He deserves it, as long as he continues to play, so the Ballon d'or is not something I am thinking of.
"Of course I would take it, but I don't think there is any chance.
"Messi is still the best player in the world, it does not matter that he is not playing in the Champions League final."
