Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic set for Alaves

Alaves are set to move for €3.5m Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic this summer, according to a report published in Marca.

The Basque club are said to be seeking for a replacement for Guillermo Maripan, who is close to agreeing a deal with West Ham United.

The Chilean international impressed for the Basque side this season, making 22 La Liga appearances in one of the tightest defences in the Spanish top flight in 2018-19.

Maripan has a €25m release clause on a contract that has two more years to run, and club director Sergio Fernandez confirmed they would only consider offers that meet that amount.

Marca now report Fernandez has identified Bosnian defender Simunovic as an affordable replacement, having fallen out of favour in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old featured in just 21 matches for the Scottish champions this season and starting just 16 of a possible 38 league matches this term.

Simunovic joined Celtic from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2015 and has made 110 first-team appearances for the club in the time since.
