Oscar Tabarez ‘confident’ Luis Suarez will be fit to Copa America duty

Uruguay national team manager is confident that Luis Suarez will be fit in time for the Copa America this summer.

Suarez underwent minor surgery on a knee problem, at the start of May, and the FC Barcelona striker states following the procedure that he was confident of making the tournament in Brazil.

The former Liverpool striker agreed to sacrifice himself for FC Barcleona's final three games of the 2018-19 season, including the Copa del Rey final against Valencia CF, but Tabarez is confident.

"I think he will be fit in time.

"He is working well and we are hopeful.

"I cannot give details at this time, but he and the FC Barcelona medical staff are keeping us updated.

"But Luis is very professional and I know the type of effort he gives in these situations."

Uruguay reached the quarter finals of the 2018 World Cup, but failed to progress past the group stages of the 2016 Copa America.

Tabarez's side have been paired with defending champions Chile, Ecuador and Japan this time around.
