Unai Emery: Arsenal can emulate Liverpool in Europe

Unai Emery is hopeful his Arsenal side can emulate Liverpool’s recent trajectory and would like to work with Marseille sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

The former Valencia and Sevilla boss also spoke of his relationship with Monchi, who reportedly came close to joining him at Arsenal this year before return to Andalusia, and Arsenal’s progress.

“Any Coach would have chosen to go there, we have managed to stabilise the team and now the results and goals have to come in,” Emery explained on Cadena Ser’s El Larguero.

“Liverpool three years ago played the Europa League final and now are playing in the Champions League final. They are a good example for us, we are in the process of recovering to be among the first four, we have to go one step further.

“The English are now competing for the Europa League, and for three years now, the winner of the Europa League has entered the Champions League so this is our objective.

“Working with Monchi? I told them (Arsenal) I was a Coach on the pitch and I did not have time to do the job of a ‘manager’ and Monchi was one of the candidates I knew well.

“I have a good relationship, we've talked a couple of times, the deal with (Marseille sporting director Andoni) Zubizarreta would be very nice.”
