LA LIGA FINAL DAY ROUND UP: Valencia and Espanyol clinch Europe

Valencia and Espanyol both sealed dramatic European qualifications on the final day of the La Liga season this weekend.

Valencia knew they had to win at Real Valladolid to ensure no last day drama, and second half goals from Carlos Soler and Rodrigo Moreno sealed a 2-0 win and a second successive season of Champions League football.

That results means it is Europa League football for Getafe, who drew 2-2 at home to Villarreal, with Sevilla finishing in sixth, thanks to a 2-0 home win against Athletic Bilbao.

Defeat for Gaizka Garitano's side meant they surrendered their seven place position, and  Espanyol's 2-0 win at home to Real Sociedad, means the Catalan side leapfrogged them both to secure a first season of European football at 2007.

None of the top three ended the season with a win, as third place Real Madrid slipped to a 2-0 home defeat to Real Betis, runners up Atletico Madrid drew 2-2 at Levante and champions Barcelona also drew 2-2 at Eibar.

Girona's relegation was rubber stamped, as they lost 2-1 at Alaves, while already relegated pair Rayo Vallecano and Huesca drew won 2-1 at home to Leganes and drew 2-2 at Celta Vigo respectively.
