Atletico Madrid interested in Nicolas Otamendi

Atletico Madrid could move for Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi as a replacement for the outgoing Diego Godin, according to reports in Diario AS.

Club captain Godin announced earlier this week that he would be leaving the club after ten years of service, when his contract expires this summer – with a move to Serie A side Inter Milan widely reported.

Manager Diego Simeone has confirmed that finding a replacement for the experienced Uruguayan international will be one of his top priorities this summer – and the former Valencia man could be on his radar in the coming weeks.

According to reports in Spain and in the UK, Jorge Mendes, who represents the Argentina international, has already spoken to Atletico Madrid director Andrea Berta about a deal.

Otamendi has been relegated to four choice centre back with the defending Premier League champions this season, making just 14 starts in league action and manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he is frustrated at a lack of playing time.

Atletico are also on the verge of securing a deal for Porto defender Felipe, as they look boost their defensive options for 2019-20.
