Winger Markel Susaeta has confirmed he is leaving Athletic Club Bilbao after making over 500 appearances for the club.
The 31-year-old – who has also been capped at international level with Spain – has confirmed he will leave San Mames, where he has spent his entire career, in summer.
“I do not know where I will be next season, but I will be playing football because I still want to play,” Susaeta has said in a statement.
“My dream has always been to be an Athletic ‘one club’ man, but circumstances have not helped. I am a discreet person who does not like the headlines and the controversy surrounding my renewal hurts me a lot.
“Things have been told that have not been true, as an example that I had an offer from the previous board, but now the time has come to step aside.
“I want to thank the fans for the support in the good times and the bad times, to all the Coaches that I have had, what I have learned from all the employees of the club, who really make our day to day unbeatable.”
