Monchi ‘wants’ to work with Joaquin Caparros at Sevilla

Sevilla sporting director Monchi has once again hinted that Joaquin Caparros will continue in his position as Coach beyond this summer.

Monchi, who returned to the Andalusian club last month, had previously said he wants to share ‘many more great moments’ with the 63-year-old at Los Rojiblancos.

Caparros, who had previously been Director of Football at the club, replaced Pablo Machin in the role last month and has overseen an upturn in results.

“I would love to work as close to Joaquin as possible in the next few years,” Monchi told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“Hopefully the circumstances will be there for them to take place, there are many conditions outside the classification (in La Liga) and the evaluation will be based on objective and subjective data.

“Qualification for the Champions League? It assures you around €50m revenue where as the Europa League is less than half of that, maybe €15-20m.

“It will not influence or ambition to continue with this project and improving our team but obviously it shapes just how much we can do right now.

“We know we cannot change the entire team, we must have a team who are competitive, skilful and physical.”

Monchi and Caparros worked together at the club in the same setup between 2000 and 2005.
