Riqui Puig ‘only wants’ Barcelona stay

Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig has ‘only wants to stay’ at the club after making his La Liga debut in Saturday’s goalless draw at Huesca.

The 19-year-old started for a much-changed Blaugrana in the match at the basement club, and impressed during his 67 minutes on the pitch.

“My only intention is to stay here, at my team and the team of my parents,” Puig said in the mixed zone, as reported by Marca.

“My idea is to keep playing for Barca B and work for opportunities in the first-team and I am sure that they will arrive if I keep at my level.

“La Liga matches are much more special than the Copa and not many youngsters have the opportunity to play for this club at this level.

“We played a good game and at times like this it shows there is a pathway to players from La Masia, although only a few are fortunate enough to get a chance.”

It was Puig’s first start for the club and only his second senior appearance following on from the Copa del Rey clash against Cultural y Leonesa earlier in the campaign.
