Barcelona to rest Lionel Messi for Huesca trip – Ernesto Valverde

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde will ‘probably’ rest Lionel Messi against Huesca and confirmed there would be rotations to his side.

The Catalan giants travel to the league’s basement side in a tricky assignment sandwiched between the two legs of their Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United.

“We will make changes for this game, you have to when you have a busy schedule,” Valverde explained to reporters, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

“We still need 10 points to become champions, that is three wins and a draw, so it is very important but we need to keep the squad fresh and rotated, so there is appropriate competition.

“Lionel? He is ok, we will probably rest him (at Huesca) and we have many intense matches coming in our schedule so we must be wary of this.

“Huesca are a dangerous team, they have a clear style of playing and will be totally different from the earlier game this season (when Barca won 8-2) but we have a good feeling in every match now.”
