Manchester United want Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez

Manchester United are rivalling interest from Manchester City in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, say ESPN FC.

The report comes on the same day that Onda Cero linked City with a move instead for his Atleti teammate Rodri, whose contract contains a €70m release clause.

Spain international Saul has spent the entirety of his professional career at Los Rojiblancos, scoring 33 goals across 240 first-team appearances.

However, indications suggest the 24-year-old’s lengthy contract – which is due to run for a further seven years until 2026 – includes a massive €150m release clause.

Saul, who was won 15 caps for the Spanish national team, is one of the pillars of the current Atleti team and he has won five trophies with the club.

United are looking to strengthen their central midfielder following the January exit of Marouane Fellaini and likely summer departure of Ander Herrera, who is out of contract.
