Xavi withdraws from Catalonia squad to face Venezuela

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez will not feature for Catalonia in their friendly game with Venezuela on Monday night.

The 39 year-old confirmed via his Instagram account that he had informed manager Gerard Lopez that he was withdrawing from the squad do to injury.

The problem is not a major issue, however with a key game for his club side Al Sadd against title rivals Al Duhail next weekend in the Qatar Stars League he has been advised to pull out.

The former Spanish international has won 12 caps for Catalonia, and he was due to receive an award prior to the game at Girona's Estadio Montilivi, in what was expected to be his final international appearance.

Lopez has confirmed that Xavi's former Barcelona team mate Gerard Pique is set to captain the side.
