Iker Casillas to sign new Porto contract

Iker Casillas is set to trigger a one-year contract extension at Portuguese champions Porto as he prolongs his career in European football, say Marca.

Now aged 37, the former Real Madrid stopper has re-established himself as number one at the Portuguese giants this season, starting 34 games to date.

It is the Spaniard’s fourth season in northern Portugal and has been first-choice for all that time barring a period last season, when Jose Sa – now on loan at Olympiakos – was preferred.

That was reportedly due to Casillas falling out with boss Sergio Conceicao but any personal disagreement appears to have now been forgotten about.

However, despite the former Spain international signing a one-year contract extension until June 2019 he had previously been reported to be leaving the Estadio do Dragao at that point to move to North America.

Porto have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season.
