Real Madrid consider Aitor Karanka as interim boss

Real Madrid are considering appointing former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka as their interim Coach until the end of the season, say reports.

ABC claim Los Blancos are considering their former central defender – who was sacked by English Championship club Forest earlier this season – as a short-term appointment to replace current incumbent Santiago Solari.

The report goes on to suggest that such a move would lay the foundation for a summer move for former boss Jose Mourinho, who the 45-year-old worked alongside in the Spanish capital.

Karanka has previously managed Middlesbrough and was number two at Madrid to Mourinho during the Portuguese Coach’s tenure at the helm between 2010 and 2013.

A variety of reports say the European champions are keen to find an urgent solution to their managerial situation, with Solari set to be sacked after a series of damaging defeats.

Madrid are 12 points off the pace in La Liga and suffered humiliating recent exits from the Copa del Rey and Champions League.
