Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema now feels like a ‘leader’ in the club’s attack and not just ‘as a supplement’ to help Cristiano Ronaldo ‘score even more goals’.
The French forward has already scored 20 goals this season – the first campaign since Ronaldo’s €100m move to Juventus – eight more than in the entirety of the 2017/18 campaign.
“Now I am the leader of the attack,” Benzema told France Football, in quotes carried by El Espanol.
“Now I am the focal point whereas before I used to play as a supplement to Cristiano, I was always looking for him with the aim of helping him score even more goals.
“I was in the background, now it's up to me to show that I want to score.”
