Ernesto Valverde has complete faith in captain Lionel Messi's penalty taking – despite the Argentinian international missing from the spot against Real Valladolid on Saturday night.
Messi scored a penalty, and had one saved, as Valverde's side won 1-0, and the former Athletic Bilbao manager has no qualms about Messi remaining as the club's penalty taker.
"Leo is always a safe option on penalties.
"I was not nervous when he took either penalty (against Valladolid), and I was convinced that he would score both."
Messi's miss from the spot was the 12th time, out of 62, that he has failed to convert a spot kick in La Liga. Overall all his record is 86 out of 106, in all competitions for Barcelona.
However he did break yet another record with his goal against Sergio Gonzalez's side, as that strike brought him up to 30 club goals in all competitions for the 11th successive season.
