Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has penned a contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2022, it has been confirmed.
The Argentine’s previous deal at Los Rojiblancos is due to expire in 2020 – at the end of next season – but this latest deal shows a commitment to a long-term future on both sides.
Simeone replaced Gregorio Manzano in the position midway through the 2011-12 campaign and is currently the longest serving Coach in La Liga.
Having previously played for the club as a central midfielder, Simeone has led the club to two Europa League titles, a Copa del Rey triumph, two Champions League finals and the 2014 La Liga title.
Atletico are currently third in the La Liga table, seven points behind leaders Barcelona and one behind Real Madrid, and face Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League.
