Valverde and Messi’s Nou Camp calls fall on deaf ears

Barcelona fans responded to calls from captain Lionel Messi and manager Ernesto Valvderde to fill the Nou Camp for their Copa del Rey quarter final second leg against Sevilla, by staying away in large numbers.

The hosts won 6-1 on the night, and 6-3 on aggregate, but supporters made their feelings clear over a late kick off time and ticket prices, with a recorded attendance of 58,050.

Despite the public calls from player and manager, fans objected to the 21.30 kick off time, and despite ticket prices being lower than for La Liga games, fan groups stated that they were still too expensive.

The game was also broadcast live on free-to-air television in Spain, further impacting attendance figures.
