Espanyol have completed the signing of Shanghai SIPG forward and China international Wu Lei, the club have confirmed.
The Catalan club’s owner Chen Yansheng has reportedly had a long-standing strong desire to bring a Chinese player to the RCDE Stadium and negotiations were completed on Monday.
The 27-year-old had been prolific in the Chinese Super League, netting a devastating 102 goals in 172 appearances in the division.
In a statement on their official website, the Catalan club noted the forward as ‘one of the most significant signing in the club’s modern history’.
The China international now looks set to provide competition for the in-form Espanyol striker Borja Iglesias and the club are still said to be in the market for a defender and a midfielder.
