Barcelona’s Jordi Alba ‘confident’ of contract renewal

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba remains confident of agreeing a new contract with the club, with his current deal expiring in June 2020.

Alba has won nine major honours since signing rejoining the club, from Valencia in 2012, and he has been a key player under each manager since then.

However negotiations are ongoing on a new contract, but the Spanish international told Catalonian newspaper Diario Sport that he is confident of securing an agreement.

"I'm optimistic about a renewal.

"It is clear that my dream is to stay at Barcelona, and it would be a shame to have come so far and then just leave.

"My intention is to stay here, as I've never seen myself away from Barcelona.

"My dream is to retire at Barcelona."

Alba has appeared in all 20 of Barcelona's La Liga games so far this season, and the appreciation between manager and player goes both ways, with the left back keen for Ernesto Valverde to also extend his stay at the Nou Camp.

"He has given me great confidence since he arrived at the club.

"Hopefully he renews. Hopefully we both will."
