Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes ‘has to show I’m the best’

Future Real Madrid player Rodrygo Goes believes he ‘has to show I am the best player on the pitch’ and ‘to be decisive in matches’.

The Brazilian celebrated his 18th birthday earlier this month and helped his nation defeat Venezuela in the South American Under-20 Championship.

“I cannot be just another player, I have to wear number 10 shirt,” Rodrygo told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“I have to show that I am able to be decisive in matches, to be the best player on the pitch.

“The important thing is for the team to qualify and to win matches, but I am happy on a personal level to score two goals.”

Rodrygo will leave Santos – whom he has made 60 first-team appearances for despite his youth – in his native Brazil to join Madrid in July after the two club’s struck a €45m deal last summer.
