Arsenal want to land Roma sporting director Monchi

Arsenal have prioritised a deal for bringing in sporting director Monchi, formerly of Sevilla, from Roma to reunite with him boss Unai Emery, say reports.

El Mundo Deportivo cite a report from The Independent saying that the Gunners wish to bring the pair – who won three consecutive Europa League titles for Sevilla between 2014 and 2016 – back together.

Monchi is under pressure due to Roma’s middling results in Serie A this campaign with his own transfer market moves coming in for a large amount of scrutiny.

Roma currently lie fifth in the Italian top flight, 23 points behind league leaders Juventus and in danger of losing their spot in the Champions League.

The sporting director – who spent 17 years of his career in the position at Sevilla – has consistently been linked with a move to Barcelona and other leading clubs throughout his career.
