Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi swaps Valencia for Monaco

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi’s season-long loan stint at Valencia has been ended four months early and he will join Monaco for the remainder of the campaign.

Batshuayi netted just one goal in four La Liga starts at the Mestalla in a frustrating season for the striker, where he has failed to settle at Los Che.

His deal at the Ligue 1 club is said to be until the end of the current campaign and will not include a purchase option, ensuring he returns to Stamford Bridge in June.

“The player knows this and we hope that soon it can be solved for the good of all the parties,” Valencia sporting director Mateu Alemany told a press conference on Thursday, in relation to the striker’s exit.

The 25-year-old former Marseille forward has 12 goals in 23 senior caps for his country but has struggled to replicate that form at club level.

Valencia boss Marcelino said earlier this week: “We need signings up front and in some cases our patience has run out.”
