Real Betis ‘very close’ to Mexican international Diego Lainez

Real Betis are ‘closer than ever’ to signing teenage Mexican international Diego Lainez from Club America, report Marca.

The 18-year-old is described as a versatile attacking midfielder who is most comfortable playing on the left-side of an attack.

Despite his age, Lainez has already wracked up 50 first-team appearances for his club side having debuted aged just 16.

Betis director of football Lorenzo Serra Ferrer was in Mexico on Wednesday in an attempt to speed up negotiations, with Thursday now viewed as a ‘key day’ in the process.

The player made his international debut with Mexico in September 2018 and had been linked with a move to Dutch giants Ajax.

However, Los Verdiblancos are now favourites in a potential move with the national team captain Andres Guardado said to be key in any potential negotiation process.
