Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil hailed his side for ‘playing with character’ in their win at Real Madrid and did not think they should have conceded a penalty.
La Real triumphed 2-0 in the home of the European champions in Alguacil’s first game in charge, while he also triumphed away to Madrid in his playing days with the club.
“I want to be totally honest, and when I see the trajectory of the ball I think Rulli wins it,” Alguacil told reporters after the game, as cited by Marca.
“I do not want to spend my time talking about referees and now that the option of VAR is there, these plays cannot be missed.
“To win at this stadium you have to face everything and hope that you can be successful, but my players have done a special job.
“They played with a lot of personality and that is not easy, I am very proud of them and the qualities they have shown.
“I am happier winning here as a Coach than as a player, because when you play you are more attentive to the game and less to our recent run of form.
“I am so so happy for them.”
