Atletico Madrid have confirmed Diego Costa has returned to Madrid to undergo the next stage of his return from a foot injury.
The striker had returned to Brazil to undertake his operation following an injury sustained in November, that had been troubling him in recent weeks.
The 30-year-old netted just four La Liga goals in the calendar year of 2018 but recently ended a nine-month scoring drought in the league when he netted against Barcelona – the final game before his layoff.
Costa has previously undergone surgery on his left foot when he suffered an injury to his fifth metatarsal.
Summer signing Nikola Kalinic has been afforded more game time for Los Rojiblancos in the period of the former Chelsea striker’s absence.
According to Marca, Costa is hopeful of returning to action for Atleti’s Champions League clash with Juventus in February.
