Barcelona and Jordi Alba ‘far apart’ on contract talks

Barcelona and Jordi Alba ‘remain very far apart’ on their contract renewal talks, according to a report in Diario AS.

Alba’s contract is about to enter its final 18 months, despite the Spaniard being Barca’s first-choice left-back and in fine form.

In November, El Mundo Deportivo said an offer of extension until 2023 will be offered and despite the 29-year-old willing to commit his future to the club, the economic demands are reportedly not being met.

Juventus and Manchester United are reported to hold an interest in the Spain international, fueled by the defender’s apparent unhappiness at not being offered a new deal earlier.

The left-back’s current deal at the Camp Nou expires in June 2020 and possesses a €150m release clause but he wants an improved contract.

Alba has played more than 250 matches for Barca after his 2012 move from Valencia with his last renewal penned in 2015.
