Brazilian forward Rodrygo Goes has confirmed he will not join Real Madrid from Santos until next summer, rather than January.
The 17-year-old has starred with Santos in his native Brazil but will join Madrid next year after the two club’s struck a €45m deal this summer.
“I will be joining the club in July, that is the agreement between the clubs and there is not an opportunity to move before that date,” Rodrygo told Gazeta Esportiva, as cited by Diario AS.
“I’m not focusing on the move, I am only thinking of Santos and I want to continue to play with this club and enjoy success.
“Madrid do not typically start seasons very well so you cannot rule them out of anything just yet, they have won three Champions League titles in a row so nobody should say too much.”
Rodrygo has made 60 first-team appearances for Santos despite his youth.
