Mariano Diaz has thanked former Real Madrid Coach Julen Lopetegui for being influential ‘in allowing me to return to my club’.
The Dominican-born striker has publicly thanked Lopetegui, who was sacked by Madrid on Monday evening, on his social media account.
“I will always be grateful to Julen Lopetegui, one of the people who made it possible for me to return home,” Mariano wrote on Twitter.
“I wish him the best for the future. Now we only have to fight more than ever to get out of this situation.”
Mariano returned to Madrid this summer following a year at Olympique Lyonnais, in a discounted €25m deal.
