Ernesto Valverde: Barcelona ‘disorientated’ by Lionel Messi injury

Ernesto Valverde admits Lionel Messi’s injury ‘disorientated Barcelona a bit’ against Sevilla but insists ‘we have enough’ to cover his absence.

“His injury disorientated us a bit, but we hope he recovers as soon as possible,” said the Coach after Saturday’s 4-2 win.

“His absence will be felt, but we have enough resources and we have to face it. Games can be up and down, but we got ahead and we reached half-time with a clear lead.

“They pushed us back in the second half, but we still had chances to score a couple more goals. We were a bit soft towards the end and conceded two goals again.

“Luis showed what he was about. He always does an incredible job and is always there at the right time.

“We’re happy because he got very stuck in and we can count on him. Dembele had more minutes at the start of the season and hasn’t played that much lately, but that’s football and we have him.

“We played well and with desire to tackle a very important week: we’re playing to be group leaders against Inter in the Champions League and there’s the Clasico against Real Madrid, with everything it entails.

“We’ve resumed on the right foot because we’re top again and we hope to keep going like this.

“My future at Barca doesn’t matter to me, I’m not fussed by it. I’m focused on our next two games and the noise that always surrounds the team is normal. We can’t do anything about it.”
