Real Madrid fear lengthy Dani Carvajal absence

Real Madrid are fearful full-back Dani Carvajal could be missing from action for as long as two months after sustaining a calf injury.

The Spain international limped off in the 42nd minute of the 1-0 defeat at CSKA Moscow on Tuesday and was replaced by Alvaro Odriozola.

Diario AS say the injury could ‘be at least four or five weeks’ while the front page of Friday’s edition of Marca claimed the timeframe was likely to be between six and eight weeks.

The 26-year-old has already had to miss games this season due to injury problems, sitting out the 1-0 win over Espanyol last month.

The European champions have themselves not put a timespan on the situation, stating only that the defender, who has not been included in Spain’s latest squad, will ‘undergo further evaluation’.

Madrid’s defensive resources are currently stretched due to Marcelo’s injury, forcing Nacho Fernandez to play left-back while playmaker Isco is also out for a month with appendicitis.
