Europa League round-up: Betis win, Sevilla stumble, Villarreal comeback

Real Betis won their first European game in five years but Sevilla lost in Russia and Villarreal needed a late comeback draw in Moscow.

Betis were being held by minnows Dudelange from Luxembourg at the break but three goals in the second half took Quique Setien’s men into a qualification position.

Los Verdiblancos drew 0-0 at Olympiakos on the opening day but goals from Antonio Sanabria, Giovani Lo Celso (pictured) and Cristian Tello secured a comfortable victory here.

A Charles Kabore own goal gave Sevilla the lead two minutes before the break at Krasnodar but late goals from Mauricio Pereira and Tornike Okriashvili gave the Russian side victory.

Villarreal came within minutes of a potentially damaging defeat at Spartak Moscow but a last gasp Santi Cazorla penalty rescued a point.

Karl Toko Ekambi and Pablo Fornals gave the visitors the lead either side of a Ze Luis penalty for the hosts, before Luis and Lorenzo Melgarejo both netted to gave the Russian side the lead.

However, Cazorla’s late penalty – his first goal in two years – earned Villarreal a second successive draw in the competition.
