Athletic Club Bilbao have confirmed goalkeeper Alex Remiro has asked to leave the club and will be allowed to depart next year.
The 23-year-old was expected to become the Basque club’s number one goalkeeper this season after making 41 league appearances for Huesca in their promotion campaign last season.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was sold to Chelsea in an €80m deal in August but Unai Simon and Iago Herrerin have been preferred by new Coach Eduardo Berizzo.
“The representative of Alex Remiro has transmitted to us that he does not want to continue in the club,” president Josu Urrutia has confirmed, via club media channels.
Remiro has represented Spain at Under-21 level but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Basque giants.
