An entertaining Madrid derby ended goalless as goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois and Jan Oblak were the stars of the show.

Atletico Madrid enjoyed the better of the first half chances with both Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa spurning golden opportunities, as they were denied by Madrid shot-stopper Courtois.

The home side have been frustrated with a lack of fluidity in their play with both of their prime opportunities falling to forward Gareth Bale.

However, the Welshman was withdrawn at the break, reportedly due to an abductor injury and was replaced by Dani Ceballos who shone in the second period.

It was a second half of few chances with Marco Asensio denied by Oblak while Dani Carvajal – who also excelled – saw his effort go straight at the Slovenian shot-stopper.

Barcelona remain top of the league table, despite being held by Athletic Club Bilbao earlier in the afternoon, as their goal difference remains superior to Madrid’s.

Atleti slip to fourth, below Sevilla, but remain just two points off the top.
