Jordi Alba: Marc-Andre ter Stegen is world’s best

Jordi Alba declared Barcelona teammate Marc-Andre ter Stegen as ‘the best goalkeeper in the world’ after Saturday’s 2-1 win at Real Sociedad.

“The important thing is the three points,” said the left-back after his side’s trip to Anoeta.

“In the first half we weren’t at our usual level. They arrived at once, scored against us and locked themselves up, so we found it difficult.

“Everything changed after the break, when we found our level and they only threatened on the counterattack.

“For me, Ter Stegen is the best [goalkeeper] in the world and he saved us. Regardless of who played, because everyone here is important, the game changed.

“It was a tight match and the details were in our favour. The game against Huesca was different, we didn’t have intensity, they scored early on and we took 19 or 20 touches before we did.

“However, today the goals came from rebounds and we didn’t suffer as much.

“We’re not worried about the Champions League, we’re winning matches at the moment. Our objectives? Everything, although it’s true that the Champions League is a special competition.”

Alba was then asked about the prospect of Barca playing their January fixture against Girona in Miami.

“It’s a decision the club have to make,” he added.

“They haven’t asked me about it yet, but they’ve spoken to the captains. It’s a long trip and I guess the Girona players want to play on their own field, but the players can’t do much…”
