A busy final day of the Spanish transfer window saw La Liga clubs make no less than 11 signings.
Undoubtedly the busiest were Rayo Vallecano, who pulled off four captures in defender Alex Galvez, winger Bebe, striker Alex Alegria and goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.
Girona were also active, bringing back Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luiz on a season-long loan, keeping Sevilla target Portu and selling David Timor to second-tier Las Palmas.
Real Betis completed the loan signing of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, while loaning Darko Brasanac to Alaves, although they failed to clinch a deal for Barcelona’s Rafinha.
Barca did not add anyone to their squad but nonetheless let young left-back Marc Cucurella join Eibar on loan for the campaign.
Real Madrid had similarly finalised their business with the return of Mariano Diaz, so deadline day was reserved for departures as Borja Mayoral moved to Levante on loan and Fabio Coentrao headed back to Portugal with Rio Ave on a free transfer.
Atletico Madrid held on to Filipe Luis after PSG signed Juan Bernat from Bayern Munich but loaned out Roberto Olabe to Extremadura of the Segunda Divison.
Espanyol, meanwhile, signed Malaga right-back Roberto Rosales on loan with an option to buy and released fellow stopper Sergio Sanchez.
Getafe managed to keep last season’s top goalscorer Angel Rodriguez from Girona’s noses and also made a signing, taking former Sevilla midfielder Sebastian Cristoforo on loan.
Sevilla’s purchase of Quincy Promes was balanced out by maverick attacker Ganso leaving to join French side Amiens for the rest of the season.
Finally, Leganes clinched a double deal for Athletic Bilbao forward Sabin Merino on loan and midfielder Recio from Malaga on a four-year contract.
