Rakitic: I’m staying at Barca

Ivan Rakitic has confirmed that he is staying at Barcelona after interest from Paris Saint-Germain. “Defending their badge is the greatest thing that exists.”

Rakitic had been linked with following Neymar to PSG, who had reportedly offered €80m for the midfielder, but the midfielder made it clear ‘no-one can offer me what I have here’.

“PSG made me an offer to study and consider, but defending the Barcelona badge is the greatest thing that exists. That’s why I’m staying,” he said after the Catalans’ 1-0 win at Real Valladolid on Saturday.

“My family were also a factor in my decision because we’re very happy in Barcelona. No-one can offer me what I have here. I’m at the best club in the world.”

The Croatian also thanked Ernesto Valverde for his glowing appraisal before the match.

“I really appreciate the Coach’s words,” he concluded.

The 30-year-old joined the Blaugrana from Sevilla in 2014 and has gone on to make over 200 appearances at Camp Nou, winning three Liga titles, four Copa del Rey and a Champions League.
