Fabio Coentrao has hit back at media reports suggesting he was AWOL by confirming he was training with Real Madrid.
The 30-year-old spent the entirety of last season on loan at Lisbon-based giants Sporting CP but was due to return to the European champions this summer.
A report in Diario AS on Wednesday said he had not been seen in the last 62 days since appearing for Sporting in their Portuguese Cup final against Aves and has not posted on social media.
The report also noted his total cost to Los Blancos has been a whopping €55m (€30m transfer fee, €25m in wages), but the player since posted a picture of himself at Madrid training and stated the press reports were incorrect.
Coentrao originally joined Madrid in 2011 but has made only 43 La Liga starts for the European champions in a spell which has a total of 106 appearances and a 2016-17 loan spell at Monaco.
The Portuguese defender’s contract at the Bernabeu runs through until June 2019.
