Kalinic signs for Atleti

Nikola Kalinic is now an Atletico Madrid player after arriving from Milan and penning a three-year deal at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The well-travelled 30-year-old has ostensibly been brought in as back-up to Diego Costa, although boss Diego Simeone will look to pair him up front with the Spanish international if Kevin Gameiro leaves the Wanda Metropolitano, as expected.

Kalinic, 30, came up through the ranks with Hadjuk Split in his native Croatia and, following brief loan spells at NK Istra and HNK Sibenik, he returned to Split and made his first-team debut in 2007.

In 2009 he signed a four-year deal with Blackburn Rovers for a reported €6m, but struggled at Ewood Park and eventually left for Ukrainian outfit Dnipro, where he helped his team reach the 2015 Europa League final, where they lost to Sevilla.

He signed for Serie A giants Fiorentina later that summer and netted 33 goals during his first two years in Italy, but moved to Milan on loan in August 2017, with the deal made permanent at the beginning of July this year after the Serie A giants exercised their obligatory option to buy.
