‘Lazio midfielder better than Pogba’

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has claimed that midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is a better player and worth more than Paul Pogba.

The Serbian international, who has been one of the Serie A club’s top performers since joining from Genk in August 2015, has been the subject of recent interest from Real Madrid, who according to reports in Spain have sent representatives to the Italian capital to discuss a deal.

The 23-year-old is reportedly being courted by Juventus, Milan and Manchester United, but Lolito revealed no offers had been made for the player, born in Lleida, Spain, since 2017.

However, Lotito said he may be willing to part with Pogba if he received an offer in excess of €105m.

“Sergej is the best young player on world scene right now, with huge potential,” declared Lotito in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

“I have not received any official bids from Milan or Juventus, let alone Madrid or United. Of course, I’m not pushing to sell him but if you ask me how much he is worth then I remember last year I turned down a €110m offer.

“How much was Pogba sold to Manchester for? €105 million? Milinkovic-Savic is worth more because he is much better and stronger.

“And to be clear, I’m not really interested in loan-type arrangements either.”

Milinkovic-Savic netted 12 goals in 35 league appearances for Lazio last term as well as playing in all three of Serbia’s World Cup games in Russia this summer.
