Diego Simeone has hailed ‘the great spirit’ shown by his Atletico Madrid youngsters in their friendly defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Los Rojiblancos went down 3-2 to the Parisians as they fielded a largely inexperienced side, with Victor Mollejo, 17, scoring and 18-year-old Borja Garces forcing an own goal from PSG’s Antoine Bernede.
“We played a good game, both the youth players and those more experienced,” Simeone is cited as saying by Diario AS.
“It was good to play with nearly 10 members of our youth side, they showed great spirit and competed very well, this experienced bodes well for the future.
“We need to show patience with these players, to work with them and help them develop.
“This is a process to make sure everyone is ready for the start of the season but we see these (pre-season) tournaments as important for us and our stature.”
