Atleti’s Sime Vrsaljko set for Inter

Sime Vrsaljko is expected to arrive in Milan this evening ahead of completing his move to Inter from Atletico Madrid.

A multitude of reports say a deal worth €24m – which will be on an initial loan deal – will take the Croatian international to the Milanese giants.

The right-back had extended his contract at Los Rojiblancos until June 2022 in February but the club have now been persuaded to cash in.

The Nerazzurri had Joao Cancelo on loan from Valencia last season, but they couldn’t afford his buyout clause and he has since joined Juventus in a €40m deal.

The 26-year-old will reportedly wear the number two shirt at the Nerazzurri while Atleti have lined up PSV Eindhoven’s Santiago Arias to replace him.

“I hope he (Vrsaljko) can continue with us,” Diego Simeone told reporters on Saturday, as cited by Diario AS. However it now appears the board have sanctioned the defender’s departure.

The 26-year-old has been continually linked with a move to Serie A in recent months, with Napoli having offers rejected in January while Roma are also being linked.

Vrsaljko, who can also operate on the left side of defence, has previous experience of playing in Italy with Genoa and Sassuolo, before joining Atletico in 2016 for a €16m fee.
