Simeone coy on Atleti transfers

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone remained coy when quizzed over further activity for his club in this summer transfer window.

Los Rojiblancos have strengthened their ranks with the arrivals of Thomas Lemar, Rodri, Gelson Martins and Jonny Castro (since loaned to Wolverhampton Wanderers).

However, the futures of strikers Luciano Vietto and Kevin Gameiro, along with full-back Sime Vrsaljko, are both under scrutiny.

“We always respect all players until their final day with the club,” Simeone is quoted as saying by Marca in response to a question regarding Gameiro’s and Vietto’s playing time in pre-season.

“Both players are hard-working, they give their all and try their best, so as a Coach I want them to be involved and my aim is to continue improving all my players, particularly the youth guys.

“Sime Vrsaljko? He had a great World Cup and showed his ability, we believe he is an important player for us and I am happy with what he has given us.

“New arrivals? That is the job of the sport management team but you always need to be careful as there are constant rumours of players coming or going.”
