Napoli and Mainz track Aaron

Espanyol could be prepared to let left-back Aaron Martin leave in the transfer window if they receive an acceptable offer.

The highly-rated 21-year-old has been linked with several clubs over the past few weeks, and two that have reignited their interest in him are Serie A giants Napoli and Bundesliga outfit Mainz.

Mundo Deportivo claim that reports in Italy suggest Carlo Ancelotti’s team could have tried for Lucas Digne of Barcelona, but club President Aurelio de Laurentiis ruled out the possibility and Aaron is seen as a better alternative.

In addition, Mainz are also interested in the player and it is understood that they have already tabled a bid of €8m, although Espanyol consider the figure insufficient to let someone of his ability leave.

Aaron has a €40m release clause in his contract, which was increased from €30m on July 1, yet sources inside the Catalan club feel a bid of around €12m would be enough to force Espanyol’s hand.

Besides Napoli and Mainz, Real Sociedad are also monitoring the situation, even more so after seeing Diego Rico, another of their targets, join Bournemouth from Leganes some days ago.
