Abidal: Malcom has Barca profile

Eric Abidal has spoken of his excitement at the late capture of winger Malcom from Bordeaux.

At the same time, Barcelona’s new sporting director believes the 21-year-old Brazilian has all the characteristics to fit in at the Camp Nou.

“We saw immediately that he had the Barcelona profile,” the Frenchman told reporters at Malcom’s official presentation in Portland.

“He is a left-footed player who is able to operate on both wings, whilst he can also play as an attacking midfielder. He has a big future ahead of him.”

Abidal also commented on Barca’s summer transfer business so far, saying he is pleased to have secured the services of Malcom, Clement Lenglet and Arthur Melo, and also mentioned striker Ousmane Dembele, who has been linked with a move away following Malcom’s capture.

“With the three signings we have made, we now have everything and more especially we have a future,” he asserted.

“With regards to Dembele, I respect all the players in our squad. We have to have a strong squad.

“There are players who play in the same position, but the season is long and we are thinking about the club. Dembele must relax, it’s important.”
