In-demand Deportivo defender Fabian Schar will undergo a medical at Newcastle United today after his €4m release clause was triggered.
The Switzerland international defender impressed for his nation in this summer’s World Cup tournament and his modest release clause has now been activated, say Sky Sports.
The 26-year-old signed a four-year contract at the Galician club last summer but his attainable release clause has alerted a number of clubs, according to El Desmarque.
The Chronicle’s chief Newcastle United writer Lee Ryder has also confirmed the Magpies were preparing a move.
Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, Italian giants Lazio and Glasgow Celtic have already registered an interested in the central defender.
Schar made 27 appearances for Deportivo last summer, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
